Acne (Acne vulgaris) is a multifactor inflammatory disease of the skin. It usually occurs in adolescents and young people. Adults can also suffer from acne. Acne is defined as a chronic inflammatory disease of sebaceous glands and hair follicles, particularly on the face, neck, chest and back. However, it can also occur in the armpits and on the buttocks. The disease is characterized by the formation of comedones, inflammatory papules and pustules or bumbs, and can be accompanied by scaring.

During puberty, the absolute majority of youth suffers from the mild to severe form of acne. The disease usually occurs at the age of 11-12, with mild forms being considered physiological during puberty. It affects adolescents of both genders, with a higher incidence of severe forms being detected in boys as compared to girls.

Main causes of acne include hormonal imbalance, bacterial infection, stress, food allergy, the use of some drugs (steroids, antidepressants, some antiepileptics, oral contraceptives), chronic constipation and the contamination of intestines, the excessive consumption of salty foods, sugars, fat and foods originating from animals, deficiency in some nutrients and vitamins, industrial pollution of the environment, the use of unsuitable cosmetic products and make-ups, too much care of the skin.

The treatment of acne depends on a number of circumstances. The therapeutic procedure must be comprehensive. Depending on the seriousness of the disease, treatment is based on local or general therapy or on their combination. Not only therapy but also the patient's mental state and prevention also play an important role.

ACNEVAC is an original product that was developed in cooperation with experts from the Faculty of Medicine, Palacky University in Olomouc.
